Today, we're going to be taking a look at part number BDW20239. This is the Bulldog Winch 3/4" Shackle for 1-1/4" Hitches. This is designed to fit most Class I and Class II receivers.	Now, when it comes to the capacity, we're looking at a 3500-lb working load limit or your vehicle's receiver capacity, so you'll want to go by whichever is lower. This is going to be great for recovery situations. Simply provides an attachment point for recovery strap. This piece is going to be the piece that mounts inside your hitch.

Very sturdy hitch hook. I put it on my truck because my friend had one (on the advice of his father) to minimize rear end accidents. I was rear ended last month, and it did its job. Yes, my truck had damage that was fixed by the other guy's insurance company, but I think it kept the damage to a minimum, and sadly damaged the other guy's radiator. Also, when I got high centered in the snow last winter, the guy who winched me out attached to this and dragged me to safety. This is a basic, very solid, unit. I expect to keep it for the life of my truck.
Use this heavy-duty, hitch-mounted shackle as an attachment point for strap, cable, or rope. Powder coated steel resists rust. Hitch pin and clip sold separately. Features: Tow ring lets you attach recovery strap, cable, or rope (sold separately) to be used in agricultural, industrial, or recreational applications Hitch-mounted design ensures quick, simple
If you already have a rear hitch receiver installed on your vehicle and simply want the most affordable means possible of installing a hitch onto your truck, this might be the option you are looking for. What is great about this truck hitch is that it can easily install on a hitch receiver and be ready to be used by your vehicle within an hour or so. Since its installation only requires the use of everyday hand tools, you won’t need to grab a power drill or anything which requires significant levels of effort.

For your 2004 Chevy Avalanche the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RREB137B, # RRRLKVA, # RREB-FK1 and # DK227 has been confirmed as a fit and would work well. Your sunroof wouldn't be an issue either. I would recommend keeping it closed since it will be very loud transporting a ladder up there from the wind noise. However, I have a better solution for you in terms of a roof rack for securing a ladder. Instead I would recommend the Rhino Rack HD bar roof rack part numbers # RB1375,...
We don’t care what great-grandad told you about looping a tow strap over your 2-inch ball for towing situations. It’s incredibly unsafe, and people have literally died trying to do that. When you pull on a tow strap, it stretches – considerably more than you would ever think. This is intentional & by design, but when you are hooked onto an open hook like this you are begging for trouble. By using Vault Cargo Management’s shackle hitch receiver you now have a closed system. This ensures that the tow strap can’t slip off and go anywhere, protecting both yourself & the people around you.
This heavy-duty trailer hitch accessory features a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" shank, allowing it to fit hardworking class 5 trailer hitches, including any CURT Commercial Duty class 5 hitch. The entire unit is tested and rated for a straight-line pull of up to 13,000 lbs., making it a useful tool for vehicle recovery or tough jobs off-road and out in the field (weight ratings limited by lowest-rated towing component).

I think it would be fine for a lite recovery, I've had to use that method winching a guy out of a snow bank(he had no recovery points). I don't see how much more different it is than using a receiver slug set up with a shackle. But I guess it depends on the quality of the pin. I too have seen it demonstrated as what to do instead of using the ball.

Heavy, solid, and it fits the 2″x2″ receiver perfectly. A 5/8″ locking hitch pin is now needed. Has to be a locking type because this shackle is so attractive a thief could hardly pass it up. In doing research, I found that hitch pins come in different lengths; I had bought one that was a bit too short to pass through the holes in my Toyota Tacoma receiver, which has 1/2″ thick walls. So beware.
The CURT Class 3 trailer hitch is the The CURT Class 3 trailer hitch is the most common type of trailer hitch installed on full-size pickup trucks and SUVs. From that center one, we're looking at 1-1/2". Then from the one that's closest to the shackle. That's going to give us a measurement of 2-1/4". Now, if we take a measurement from the center of those hitch pinholes to the back of the shackle, the closest point, there, of the shackle . the closest pinhole to the shackle is going to be 1". That center one, right here up top, that's going to be 1-3/4, and to the very back pinhole, that's going to be about 2-1/2". Pretty simple installation. You'll need to determine which way you want this positioned in your hitch. Slide this piece into the receiver opening of the hitch and then secure it in your hitch using a hitch pin and clip or hitch lock. That's going to do it for today's look at part number BDW20239.

How much weight your vehicle can handle while it is towing a car or trailer is perhaps the most important factor that people will look at when they are deciding what type of truck hitch to purchase. As briefly stated above, shackle hitches are the most affordable way to get a hitch that can handle weight over 10,000 pounds. Since this is more than the normal weight that people will drag around, many people with heavy-duty needs will get this design.
Next up is the MOTORMIC Shackle Hitch Receiver. The reason I like this one is because of the added accessories that comes with the d ring hitch. They include a hitch receiver pin and also a red isolator so this thing doesn’t clank when hitting the trail. Rated at 11,000 Pounds, more than double the weight of standard truck or Jeep! Designed for rescue in any kind of situation with a multi point mounting like the Mile Marker. The 2-inch Receiver Hitch by MOTORMIC is designed to allow the ¾-inch D-Ring to swing horizontally or vertically for extensive recovery anchor point options. All in all a good choice because of the added bonus items!
The hitch pin is 5/8" in diameter and so has an area of about 0.30 sq-inches. Grade 5 fasteners under 1" have a minimum proof of 85 ksi and grade 8 120 ksi. So a 5/8" grade 5 rod (or bolt with minor diameter of 0.625", so make sure to use a shouldered bolt long enough that the unthreaded part spans both receiver holes) will minimally tolerate about 25,500 lbf and grade 8 about 36,000 lbf without deformation.

Considering a hitch pin is meant to be loaded in shear vs the bolt in tensile plus the larger minimum diameter of the pin...I'd go with the pin. The actual block depends on what brand you buy. I think my Smittybuilt is a solid chunk of (Chinese) steel that I really doubt is going to fail before something else. The shackle on the other hand, you'd be better off not getting the Smittybuilt Chinese version.

This truck hitch from Vault Cargo Management comes with a sturdy shackle hitch design that comes with an impressive towing weight capacity and a price that everybody who is looking for a truck hitch can afford. With 10,000 pounds of towing weight capacity, there are few things that cannot be pulled by this truck hitch. The true test, then, would be to see if your truck can handle towing your cargo.
Solid, heavy, very thick coating. Look like they will hold up as advertized although I haven't had a chance to use them yet. Fit and finish is at least as good as higher-priced shackles I've seen at my local S&M Bondage store and I think they'll go well with that early 20th century farmhouse basement steam radiator theme or in any safe house as well. Finding chain and manacles to match might be a chore, but look around.
