From that center one, we're looking at 1-1/2". Then from the one that's closest to the shackle. That's going to give us a measurement of 2-1/4". Now, if we take a measurement from the center of those hitch pinholes to the back of the shackle, the closest point, there, of the shackle . the closest pinhole to the shackle is going to be 1". That center one, right here up top, that's going to be 1-3/4, and to the very back pinhole, that's going to be about 2-1/2". Pretty simple installation. You'll need to determine which way you want this positioned in your hitch. Slide this piece into the receiver opening of the hitch and then secure it in your hitch using a hitch pin and clip or hitch lock. That's going to do it for today's look at part number BDW20239.

Use this heavy-duty, hitch-mounted shackle as an attachment point for strap, cable, or rope. Powder coated steel resists rust. Hitch pin and clip sold separately. Features: Tow ring lets you attach recovery strap, cable, or rope (sold separately) to be used in agricultural, industrial, or recreational applications Hitch-mounted design ensures quick, simple
Not everybody needs to be able to tow this amount of weight. For these people, you might instead opt to get a receiver hitch or ball mount hitch since they will normally clock in around 5,000 or fewer pounds in towing weight capacity. If you don’t envision ever needing a hitch which can handle weights which are more than usual, you should simply get a ball mount of the receiver hitch.
That's going to allow for easy and quick connect and disconnect of the recovery strap . Now, this is going to be great for ATVs and UTVs that have an 1-1/4" hitch on it. It is going to require a 1/2" hitch pin and clip or lock to get it secured into the hitch. That item is sold separately. You can find those right here at etrailer.com. A few measurements to go over with you real quick.

Starting off this list is the Smittybilt tow hitch shackle for a 2 inch Receiver. This is a brand you can trust because they have been around since 1956. Building Jeep accessories for longer than most anyone else in the off road world. The Smittybilt Receiver Hitch D-Ring is a quick and solid recovery point. This thing will pop into any 2″ receiver. It has a 4.75 ton weight rating and comes in a durable black powder coat finish. Even though this is a few dollars higher in price opposed to the other black ones on the list, but I still put it at number one for the trusted brand name. Cant go wrong with a blacked out d ring hitch from Smittybilt!

A Class 1 or Class 2 receiver has a 1-1/4” opening and is typically only used on cars for towing small trailers or supporting a bike rack. Class 3 and Class 4 receivers have a 2” opening. You'll find these on larger SUV's (the body-on-frame type, not crossovers,) and pickup trucks. A Class 3 receiver can handle up to 6,000 lbs (depending on design,) while a Class 4 can go up to 10,000 lbs. (Again, that's design-dependent.)
We don’t care what great-grandad told you about looping a tow strap over your 2-inch ball for towing situations. It’s incredibly unsafe, and people have literally died trying to do that. When you pull on a tow strap, it stretches – considerably more than you would ever think. This is intentional & by design, but when you are hooked onto an open hook like this you are begging for trouble. By using Vault Cargo Management’s shackle hitch receiver you now have a closed system. This ensures that the tow strap can’t slip off and go anywhere, protecting both yourself & the people around you.
Considering a hitch pin is meant to be loaded in shear vs the bolt in tensile plus the larger minimum diameter of the pin...I'd go with the pin. The actual block depends on what brand you buy. I think my Smittybuilt is a solid chunk of (Chinese) steel that I really doubt is going to fail before something else. The shackle on the other hand, you'd be better off not getting the Smittybuilt Chinese version.
This hitch also comes with a hitch pin, shackle, and shackle cover, meaning that you will have everything necessary to break out your tools and install the hitch yourself. Additionally, you can take this part to any mechanic and they will easily be able to install it for you. Although a hitch like this is great since it allows you to shackle either horizontally or vertically at a considerably high towing weight capacity, it is also a tad noisier than ball mount hitches.

While it is good to have a D ring receive hitch in your Jeep just in case, it is always preferable to avoid a nasty situation in the first place. You should avoid driving in unknown areas or driving over something with an uncertain depth. You also need to drive slowly when possible. However, even the most careful drivers may end up stuck in the mud at one point or another. A D ring hitch is useful, but it is also good if you always carry a first aid kit, jack and shovel in your Jeep, too.

Nylon Recovery Straps are great for situations where you may need to get a running start and traction all around is not so great. If you are in a situation where both you and the stuck driver are in sand, mud, snow or ice, you will need a running start to gain momentum. Once you have enough momentum and that point hits where the nylon recovery strap stretches out, the momentum should be enough to pop another vehicle out, all without a big JOLT of pull on both vehicles. The downside of nylon recovery straps is if used incorrectly and the nylon snaps, that stretch has to go somewhere. If a nylon strap stretches to hard and too fast, it will backlash at a vehicle or even worse a person’s face. Just make sure to keep vehicles and people clear of the recovery area when pulling someone out.
Thoughts: I posted some pics so you can see the workmanship as well as the fit on my Tacoma. This is not tubed metal; it's casted and is solid (weighs about 9lbs). D-Ring fits perfectly within the block... no wiggle yet can freely spin. No paint chips either. Cannot wait to write a follow-up after my first use and am confident this will be a vital piece of my recovery kit for a long time.

With that being said though, it all depends on how you plan to use your 4Runner off-road and the types of terrain you see. Because the ARB Off-Road Recovery Snatch Straps have the most stretch, doesn’t mean they are the “best” it just means that they are truly designed for off-road recovery in pulling someone out. Again, like we said above in the material section, there are different recovery straps that perform better in certain situations.

Searching for the best truck hitches for towing requires that you carefully consider the price of the model, the towing weight capacity, the type of hitch, and the durability of the materials used in the hitch. However, always be sure to purchase something only if you can afford it.

Nice Shackles as described, though not really any different than any other shackle, except it says Rhino. I paid extra to get these hoping the powder coating would keep them from rusting. First rain, not ever having been used, rust appeared in the eye hole. They should ecoat, with a zinc phosphate pretreat, then powder coat to make this a great product. Military surplus may be a better option, and paint over the CARC.
