First question I had was if it was square tube or a solid chunk.. it is definitely a solid chunk of steel. This thing has some heft to it, which is a good feeling. I have a 3/4 avalanche that’s heavy. I used this thing right away. First day I watched a heavy loaded military hummer go in the ditch and get stuck, and they let me pull them out. I was right there, so they hadn’t called it in yet.
This means that you should be cautious before you whip out the money that is truly required for getting a truck hitch. If you find a high-quality hitch that is anywhere between $20-50 many people might think that they are of a lower quality than what a local retailer has. However, the reality is that many local retailers purchase products like these and then mark up the price to local customers. Just keep in mind that the market is always subject to change and the price can rapidly evolve out of this range.

Next up is the MOTORMIC Shackle Hitch Receiver. The reason I like this one is because of the added accessories that comes with the d ring hitch. They include a hitch receiver pin and also a red isolator so this thing doesn’t clank when hitting the trail. Rated at 11,000 Pounds, more than double the weight of standard truck or Jeep! Designed for rescue in any kind of situation with a multi point mounting like the Mile Marker. The 2-inch Receiver Hitch by MOTORMIC is designed to allow the ¾-inch D-Ring to swing horizontally or vertically for extensive recovery anchor point options. All in all a good choice because of the added bonus items!
Considering a hitch pin is meant to be loaded in shear vs the bolt in tensile plus the larger minimum diameter of the pin...I'd go with the pin. The actual block depends on what brand you buy. I think my Smittybuilt is a solid chunk of (Chinese) steel that I really doubt is going to fail before something else. The shackle on the other hand, you'd be better off not getting the Smittybuilt Chinese version.
The durability of the metal used in designing your truck hitch should be something that everybody takes into account before purchasing one. Since these products are typically made of metal, a common issue that could result is rust and corrosion. For this reason, many manufacturers will make their truck hitches coated so that they are naturally resistant to the weather and rust.
This heavy-duty trailer hitch accessory features a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" shank, allowing it to fit hardworking class 5 trailer hitches, including any CURT Commercial Duty class 5 hitch. The entire unit is tested and rated for a straight-line pull of up to 13,000 lbs., making it a useful tool for vehicle recovery or tough jobs off-road and out in the field (weight ratings limited by lowest-rated towing component).
Searching for the best truck hitches for towing requires that you carefully consider the price of the model, the towing weight capacity, the type of hitch, and the durability of the materials used in the hitch. If all of these things blend together in a fashion which results in the best possible towing hitch for your personal needs, there is no reason you should hold back on your decision. However, always be sure to purchase something only if you can afford it.
I went out to the warehouse to take a look at the Bulldog Winch Receiver Mount with Shackle # BDW20186 referenced in your question. The pin hole that the shackle mounts to has a diameter of right at 1 inch. As you already mentioned, the shackle itself has a 7/8 inch diameter and the shank is a 2-1/2 inch x 2-1/2 inch, Class V receiver mount. This is a really nice, heavy duty mount that has a break strength of 78,000 pounds and a working load limit of 13,000 pounds. I have also attached...

It's made from a solid steel construction. It's going to offer three pinhole locations, so you have one right here and then two on this side. That's going to allow the shackle to be used horizontally or vertically, and it's got the short mounting shank. That's going to enable the shackle to sit pretty close to the receiver that's mounted onto the vehicle. We have a screw pin design.

I recieved this a few days ago. It came in a nicely packed, sturdy box. After opening it up and seeing it for myself, I have to say the quality is awesome! Its a HEAVY shackle. The matte finish on the reciever end is superb (this piece must weigh about 7-10 lbs on its own). The shackle itself has a nice galvanized coating, and weighs about 6-7 lbs! Overall I think it is an awesome addition to any truck, looks great and has all the functionality that you'll probably need out of a shackle. 5/5 would reccomend! 457088
Whoever said hitch capacity is full of it. In a straight line pull you can pull until you reach shear strength of bolts or bending strength of the hitch. Both are much greater than your truck's GVW. Either choice is fine. There is already an attachment point on the rear though that does just fine. 2X GVW on strap. There are 100 threads on this exact topic.
This hitch also comes with a hitch pin, shackle, and shackle cover, meaning that you will have everything necessary to break out your tools and install the hitch yourself. Additionally, you can take this part to any mechanic and they will easily be able to install it for you. Although a hitch like this is great since it allows you to shackle either horizontally or vertically at a considerably high towing weight capacity, it is also a tad noisier than ball mount hitches.
You can see here at the end of our shang it's going to have pen holes all around it. That way you can use this in any position inside your hitch, whether it's vertically or horizontal. The diameter of those pin holes is going to measure 5/8ths of an inch. You hitch pin and clip or hitch lock is going to be sold separately. We carry those on our website if you need to check those out.

Not everybody needs to be able to tow this amount of weight. For these people, you might instead opt to get a receiver hitch or ball mount hitch since they will normally clock in around 5,000 or fewer pounds in towing weight capacity. If you don’t envision ever needing a hitch which can handle weights which are more than usual, you should simply get a ball mount of the receiver hitch.
I’ve had this 20 ft strap combo for about 10 months now just in case I ever needed it. I was waiting till I actually used it to give it a review. I used it today to pull my brothers lifted f250 with it. The shackle was real heavy duty and easy to take the hitch off and put the shackle in. It gives you that peace of mind that it won’t come off the ball hitch. The Strap is built tough and durable. I do like the double loop ends on the strap because I feel like that’s sturdier than the metal hooks straps. It was actually my first time pulling a vehicle with my truck and the 20 ft strap was actually plenty long for the speeds we went. We had our phones on and constantly communicating so we could be on the same page when breaking. I traveled 3 miles pulling a heavy f250 at no more than about 35-40 mph. The 20 ft strap was plenty room for braking at that speed and enough to give u peace of mind of not feeling like the vehicle your pulling is gonna slam into you. I like the bag to keep everything in. Mine fits perfect underneath the back seats of my ram. Great buy. Pulling my brothers truck one time paid for itself in not having to get a tow truck.
