I honestly didn’t have too high of expectations when purchasing this product as the cost was a lot easier on the wallet than local farm supply stores. That being said, this thing has a beautiful fit and finish. The ability to have the shackle mounted sideways, keeps from damaging your rope from pinch points. This thing is a solid chunk of steel. I’m not entirely sure that it is possible to damage this hitch on a full size truck. The hitch pin or shackle will fail way before the receiver will. Make sure you use this thing as it is intended because if you manage to rip this off, it is going to take armor plating to stop this thing in a projectile state. It is SOLID! Also, buy a locking hitch pin. Someone would definitely steal this if they have the chance.

The ball hitch on the back of many pickups and SUVs is for towing a trailer. It is not for rescuing an off-road vehicle that’s stuck. That's the job of a shackle hitch receiver. Here we'll explain what a shackle hitch is and why you should have one in your 4×4 or truck. Then once you're educated we'll review the Heavy Duty Shackle Hitch Receiver from Rhino USA. Individual sections will cover:
It simply becomes an attachment point for a strap. This is a 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch class 5 receiver mount with a 7/8th inch shackle. It's going to be designed for 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch hitches. It's CNC machined, so it's a solid steel mount with a nickel plating for corrosion resistance. Then here at the shackle we're going to have the forged alloy steel shackle and that's going to have a zinc plating on it to resist rust and corrosion. The brake strength rating for this unit is 78,000 pounds and the working load limit is 13,000 pounds.
With that being said though, it all depends on how you plan to use your 4Runner off-road and the types of terrain you see. Because the ARB Off-Road Recovery Snatch Straps have the most stretch, doesn’t mean they are the “best” it just means that they are truly designed for off-road recovery in pulling someone out. Again, like we said above in the material section, there are different recovery straps that perform better in certain situations.
First question I had was if it was square tube or a solid chunk.. it is definitely a solid chunk of steel. This thing has some heft to it, which is a good feeling. I have a 3/4 avalanche that’s heavy. I used this thing right away. First day I watched a heavy loaded military hummer go in the ditch and get stuck, and they let me pull them out. I was right there, so they hadn’t called it in yet.
You can see here at the end of our shang it's going to have pen holes all around it. That way you can use this in any position inside your hitch, whether it's vertically or horizontal. The diameter of those pin holes is going to measure 5/8ths of an inch. You hitch pin and clip or hitch lock is going to be sold separately. We carry those on our website if you need to check those out.
Considering a hitch pin is meant to be loaded in shear vs the bolt in tensile plus the larger minimum diameter of the pin...I'd go with the pin. The actual block depends on what brand you buy. I think my Smittybuilt is a solid chunk of (Chinese) steel that I really doubt is going to fail before something else. The shackle on the other hand, you'd be better off not getting the Smittybuilt Chinese version.
The picture didn’t do it justice. I have not been able to install it yet. I activated the warentee and I spoke to customer service to see if they were helpful. Right away the people I talked to were really down to earth and friendly, knowldgable and berry helpful. This was my first shackle setup. My first impression is that it’s awesome and very solid. Will definitely help me when I go fishing on the beach if I get stuck. Can’t wait to install on my jeep. Like I told customer service, I really wish that the would come up with a locking hitch pin. The company actually told me it’s in the mix. I already recommended this product to 3 of my Jeeper buds. When they come out with that hitch pin, I will definitely buy it. Overall great product. Cool company made in USA. Awesome powder coat finish. I will upload photos when I install the hitch and then the shackle.
