It simply becomes an attachment point for a strap. This is a 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch class 5 receiver mount with a 7/8th inch shackle. It's going to be designed for 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch hitches. It's CNC machined, so it's a solid steel mount with a nickel plating for corrosion resistance. Then here at the shackle we're going to have the forged alloy steel shackle and that's going to have a zinc plating on it to resist rust and corrosion. The brake strength rating for this unit is 78,000 pounds and the working load limit is 13,000 pounds.

This is a great tow hitch to consider purchasing if you are already the owner of a ball mount and need a little extra kick to your towing capacity. As we all know, shackle hitches tend to carry a little more weight than their ball mount counterparts. This is why many will consider them to be the best truck hitches for towing. Since this one in particular comes with resistance to rust, thanks to its rugged powder coating, it is also guaranteed to last a longer time than one without these protections.

Use this heavy-duty, hitch-mounted shackle as an attachment point for strap, cable, or rope. Powder coated steel resists rust. Hitch pin and clip sold separately. Features: Tow ring lets you attach recovery strap, cable, or rope (sold separately) to be used in agricultural, industrial or recreational applications Hitch-mounted design ensures quick, simple
I hate empty receiver hitches, but I also hate having my shin or knee taken out by a hitch.  So a while back I bought a shackle hitch for my lifted and locked Jeep Cherokee from Harbor Freight.  Wimpiest little thing I ever saw, it was almost embarrassing to have it mounted on my Jeep.  Then, enter Rhino USA as a TT sponsor.  I always at least check out the products from new sponsors here, so I went to their website to see what they had to offer.  Their shackle hitch immediately caught my eye, it was massive.  16 ton capacity!  I could pull a house with that thing if my Cherokee were capable of doing so.  Ordered one up and when I got it I was even more impressed seeing it in person.  Very nice black finish, the hitch itself looks to be bombproof, and the shackle is the heaviest duty one I have seen short of the stuff they use in the oil field.  My receiver is not empty, and I'm not embarrassed either.

They put a nice little hole in here so you can stick a piece of metal or steel through there, a long piece, that way you can get some leverage and get it tightened down all the way. That's going to make it for an easier removal as well. Ours is loosely installed today so I can simply just do it by hand, simply just twist it counterclockwise until it disengages. Then you'll be able to pull it all the way out. That's going to do it for today's review of part number BDW20181. This is the Bulldog Big Dog Shackle. .
There are a number of ways Jeeps get stuck when off-roading. You may drive through a patch of mud you thought was solid but turned out to still be fairly wet. Snowstorms are able to trap Jeeps, or you may even try to drive through a small crack in the road only to get caught on something. Regardless of the reason, you need to get your vehicle out. A shackle hitch is a great investment, and while you are not going to need it all the time, you are able to rest easy knowing it is there.
There's no guarantee that the hitch rating is the same as the truck's tow rating. The base truck is rated for 3,500 lbs so it's possible someone puts on even as low as a class II hitch, which is 3,500 lbs rated. So you just have to know what everything is designed for. I'm not sure you can say the tow point could actually handle 10,000 lbs. Perhaps it's the frame that gives up at 6,500 lbs so trying to use 10,000 lbs in the hitch would mean the hitch itself would stay intact but pull the frame apart. It's maybe due to brakes, not exceeding the weight of the truck itself too much, stability. But that's all speculation. All you can say is you know 6,500 lbs is fine.
There are plenty of great parts to choose from when you buy from 4wheelparts.com. You find recovery hitches from a wide range of brands, including Warn, Rugged Ridge and Factor 55. Nylon Recovery Straps are great for situations where you may need to get a running start and traction all around is not so great. If you are in a situation where both you and the stuck driver are in sand, mud, snow or ice, you will need a running start to gain momentum. Once you have enough momentum and that point hits where the nylon recovery strap stretches out, the momentum should be enough to pop another vehicle out, all without a big JOLT of pull on both vehicles. The downside of nylon recovery straps is if used incorrectly and the nylon snaps, that stretch has to go somewhere. If a nylon strap stretches to hard and too fast, it will backlash at a vehicle or even worse a person’s face. Just make sure to keep vehicles and people clear of the recovery area when pulling someone out.
The picture didn’t do it justice. I have not been able to install it yet. I activated the warentee and I spoke to customer service to see if they were helpful. Right away the people I talked to were really down to earth and friendly, knowldgable and berry helpful. This was my first shackle setup. My first impression is that it’s awesome and very solid. Will definitely help me when I go fishing on the beach if I get stuck. Can’t wait to install on my jeep. Like I told customer service, I really wish that the would come up with a locking hitch pin. The company actually told me it’s in the mix. I already recommended this product to 3 of my Jeeper buds. When they come out with that hitch pin, I will definitely buy it. Overall great product. Cool company made in USA. Awesome powder coat finish. I will upload photos when I install the hitch and then the shackle.
