By making this shackle hitch receiver out of drop forged steel, we’re able to get the most out of the mechanical properties of the steel. This is done by not compromising the grain direction of the steel, resulting in one of the strongest, most reliable products you’ll find on the market. While other brands are forging or machining their D-ring hitch for you, we’re relying on the time-tested drop-forging method. Not only is it the best method for making a shackle hitch receiver, but it sounds pretty rugged too.
Quadratec’s handy Receiver Hitch D-Ring Shackle Mounts work with any 2"” receiver tube to provide a sturdy recovery point for stuck vehicles. Whether you'’re stuck in sand, snow or mud, you’ll be glad to have such an indispensable tool on board. Our 3/4” D-Rings feature 7/8” diameter screw pins with a 4-3/4 ton working load limit. Shackle design exceeds 5 times it's load limit in our independent testing. Available in hot dip galvanized and three powder coated finishes. Kits come complete with forged steel shackle mount, forged steel D-ring and hitch pin with clip.
Just a few measurements we're going to go over real quick starting with the overall length, from very back to the front with the shackle extended out. That's going to give us a measurement of about 11 and a half inches. If we measured just the mount portion without the shackle, that's going to give us a measurement of about 8 inches. Really simple installation. This portion right here is going to be the portion that slides into your 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch trailer hitch receiver. You're going to push it in until you get your pin holes lined up with one another in whatever configuration that you want to use this.
The Grip recovery strap is made of polyester, which is typically material that would be used in a tow strap. But, it is not uncommon to see recovery straps made of polyester as well or a combination of Polyester and other materials. Grips recovery strap is weather resistant like most recovery straps out there and is designed to stand the test of any weather condition you can throw at it.

Smittybilt is a decent brand. They just take generic things and put their name on them and mark them up in price. Their D rings are no different than any others you'd find on Amazon. My buddy put some on his XJ Jeep and the red powdercoat they used was evidently just an epoxy or something else not UV-stable, and faded to pink in a short time. He bought generic replacements for them and they were identical to the Smittybilt.

Starting off this list is the Smittybilt tow hitch shackle for a 2 inch Receiver. This is a brand you can trust because they have been around since 1956. Building Jeep accessories for longer than most anyone else in the off road world. The Smittybilt Receiver Hitch D-Ring is a quick and solid recovery point. This thing will pop into any 2″ receiver. It has a 4.75 ton weight rating and comes in a durable black powder coat finish. Even though this is a few dollars higher in price opposed to the other black ones on the list, but I still put it at number one for the trusted brand name. Cant go wrong with a blacked out d ring hitch from Smittybilt!
The ball hitch on the back of many pickups and SUVs is for towing a trailer. It is not for rescuing an off-road vehicle that’s stuck. That's the job of a shackle hitch receiver. Here we'll explain what a shackle hitch is and why you should have one in your 4×4 or truck. Then once you're educated we'll review the Heavy Duty Shackle Hitch Receiver from Rhino USA.
