Mildew Prevention and Treatment No matter how carefully maintained, every RV cover can be a target for a case of mildew. What causes mildew and what are the most sensible ways to prevent and treat it? Mildew is a form of fungus present everywhere in the world. It is a primitive plant form that feeds on other plants and produces microscopic, seed-like spores that float freely. It takes dark, damp conditions to encourage their growth. Synthetic cover fabrics do not support the growth of mildew. Natural cover fabrics (those containing cotton) can support the growth of mildew, but such fabrics are treated with mildew inhibitors that will, with proper care, typically outlast the warranty period of the cover. However, dirt, pollen and other environmental particles that embed between the fbers of any cover fabric are gourmet fare for mildew and therefore, no RV cover fabric can prevent mildew from growing. Most remedies rely on sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) to remove mildew. A good, strong, all-around solution is ½ cup household bleach per gallon of water. Do not use liquid detergents in combination with bleaches. Scrub the affected surfaces with a soft brush, using rubber gloves and eye protection. Rinse thoroughly. For cleaning our covers, we highly recommend 303 Marine & Recreation Multi-Surface Cleaner which is safe and effective. Be aware that repeated cleanings can diminish the water repellency of the canvas. To restore water repellency to factory-new levels, we highly recommend 303 Marine & Recreation Fabric Guard. Remember that anything used to kill or remove mildew will wash or wear away over time, so be prepared for repeated treatments as part of your maintenance routine.

The former, obviously, and through personal experience, is much harder to use than the latter. However, the primary benefit of the manual jack is that it COULD be less prone to breaking since it is a simpler device. The electric trailer jack could fail electrically or mechanically. The electric trailer jack will also require installation or some know-how as far as wiring goes.

From my research I found that your 16-ft Airstream Bambi has an A-frame. I recommend the Husky Brute Electric Trailer jack, part # HT87247. This jack features a 6-inch drop leg and lift of 18 inches so the total travel is 24 inches. This also includes a manual override if needed. This is a bolt-on installation. To keep the jack protected from the elements over prolonged periods of time I recommend part # UF38-944020.
Ever wonder what to do with your trailer safety chains, trailer emergency brake cable, and electrical connector when your trailer isn't hooked up to your tow vehicle? Hate to see these items just lying on the ground? Well if you are anything like Camp Addict co-founder Marshall, trying to find a good place to store these items drives you insane! (Camp Addict co-founder Kelly could care less about these details. 😂)

I spoke to my contact at Lippert Components (LCI) and they informed me that the jack will perform best in cold weather when it is properly lubed and cleaned. To clean the jack I recommend using a brake parts cleaner and spraying down both the drop leg and gears within the head of the unit. Once these two components have been cleaned you will need to acquire some lithium grease like part # L10307 and apply that to the gears on the trailer jack. Once you grease the gears on the unit you...

There are several places water can get into any given jack. Water should be able to drain out though. If the exit points which would be at the lowest point are clogged then the water would not be able to exit. You could use a jack cover like # UF38-944020 for future use. There is no telling how much damage is really done. If there is enough corrosion then something inside could be structurally compromised and fail when you have weight on the jack. I would not be comfortable offering...

I went out to the warehouse to look at the Lippert Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack, # LC285318. In order to remove the screws that secure the cover you will need a long and thin phillips head screwdriver. If you don't already have one, you'll want to purchase a Protective Cover, # UF38-944020, to keep your jack dry when you are at the campsite. This will protect the head of the jack and keep the motor protected from the elements.
While you could possibly run the power from the 7-Way to the jack, it is not ideal and you could overload the circuit. I recommend adding a battery to the trailer and providing a maintenance charge to the battery from the 7-Way. You will connect the 12 volt circuit from the 7-Way trailer connector to the positive battery terminal. The jack will get its power from the trailer battery this way and not from the vehicle 7-Way. Having the wire to provide a maintenance charge will only maintain...

Ever since my first job at Dairy Queen (yes, they DO let you eat the ice cream!) I’ve been career-focused. I completed my first internship with a professional football team while I was still in college. I was hired full-time as soon as I graduated, and within six months I was promoted into a brand new department. I thought I knew it all. But as I’ve progressed in my career, I finally realized…I absolutely do not. Shocker, right? Enter The Muse. (Via @Kararuns729).

Cover cropping is commonly used to prevent nutrient leaching. Cover crops capture the nutrients left in the soil profile after the main crop and increase the soil organic matter content. Growing species mixtures of cover crops may be a simple tool to increase biodiversity in agriculture, to combine multiple functions and prevent crop failure. We examine if clever combinations of cover crop species will simultaneously increase nutrient use efficiency and improve soil quality.
Trailersphere recently introduced the Clever Cover, a custom tongue jack cover that fits and protects the jack, seven-way electrical plug and safety chains from dirt, harsh elements and weather. The Clever Cover comes in seven different custom models for the most common and popular tongue jacks in the market and additional models will be available soon. Current jack models include a Clever Cover for the Smart Jack and LCI jack by Lippert Components, Fastec Industrial (FIC), Carlson Stromberg, RAM, Atwood, and a sidewinder manual jack.
If your existing shade ranges from 5 to 9 inches in height, you'll choose a 9" Clever Cover. If your existing shade ranges from 9 - 12 inches in height, you'll choose a 12" Clever Cover. Just tighten the ribbon to adjust height of the Clever Cover. It's fine if the Clever Cover is longer than your shade; the covers are meant to be used as a slipcover. In fact, a Clever Cover that is a few inches bigger than your existing shade - especially if the shade is too small for the lamp - can transform the proportions of your lamp and create a much more proportional, balanced look - in an instant!
We bought the Clever Cover after having a problem with water in our smart jack. Really wished we had this cover before as it is a great protective design. The clear window on top allows you to easily control the jack, the pouch for the electrical cord and the hooks for the chains are so practical. It keeps all the parts of the jack and towing lines so organized and clean. It is well built and appears to be very durable. Great purchase and everyone with a Smart Jack should get one!

It sounds like the Bulldog A-Frame Jack, part # BD500200 is just what you are looking for. The BD500200 has an outer tube diameter of 2-1/4 inches which matches what you are replacing and this jack has 2 toggle switches. One is used to control the up and down movement of the jack and the other switch turns the LED lights on and off. The mounting plate features mounting holes that allow you to mount it so the controls are at the front of the jack or mount it so that the controls are...
OK, so you have your trailer tongue weight (or a rough idea what it is). What next? If you have a weight distribution hitch that uses spring arms, it's very likely that you will need to raise both the front of the trailer and the rear of your tow vehicle in order to be able to get the spring arms onto their brackets. So not only is the tongue jack lifting the weight of the front of your trailer, it is also picking up the rear of your tow vehicle. 😳

The Fastway Flip trailer jack foot is an easily installed foot that will give you either a 4" or a 6" extension. It has a unique feature in that it will automatically drop down when you are lowering your jack and it will automatically retract into a stowed position as you are running your jack up. Either extension length fits the standard 2 1/4" tongue jack with a 2" inner tube diameter.

Things like that, that just tend to build up over time when things sit. When it's time to take it off, we'll simply press the button in our toggle, spread the bottom, pull it off and we'll tuck it away until we need it next time to cover up our jack. Not only is this going to work out really good for our Ultra Fab products, but it's also going to work on different Bulldog, Barker, Husky, At Wood 00:01:26, inaudible 00:01:27, Sequent 00:01:27, Component, Odyssey and Ultra Series jacks. That's going to complete our look at the Ultra Fab A-frame jack cover, part number UF38-944020.
